ONLINE PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL GROUPS

CONNECTED WE STAND:
After the success of in-person psychoeducational groups meant for people on hemodialysis and their families, our goal is to continue supporting this population.
Our mission is to facilitate the development of strategies that allow these people to live beyond the disease, treatments, and their implications, despite the difficulties they face daily.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
Adults with end-stage renal disease receiving hemodialysis treatments in Portuguese nephrology centers (Continent, Azores, and Madeira), as well as their family caregivers.
INTERVENTION
Psychoeducational support is a type of group intervention (short-term) that involves semi-structured sessions and integrates two components: education and support..
The educational component aims to reinforce disease/treatment-related knowledge, improve self- and family-management skills, facilitate psychosocial adjustment to renal therapies, and foster feelings of competence and self-efficacy to deal with treatment demands.
The support component aims to train skills to help manage emotions and develop effective coping strategies, boost communication between the triad patient/family/healthcare team, and strengthen support networks within and outside the family.

  • Psychoeducational groups for family members of people on hemodialysis
  • Dyadic psychoeducational groups for both patients and families (including couples)
